Week 1: Still Life (Light & Cloth)

Charcoal, 30 minutes

It's not very clear that the lamp underneath the drapery is actually emitting light even though the top is the lightest part of the drawing. This could have been highlighted by shading in the background which would have really helped this especially if a small halo of lighter area was left around the top of the object which would make it really clear that light is being emitted.
The ellipsis is fairly successful as it allows you see that the object was viewed from slightly above and not at eye level as the ellipsis would have been much thinner. The table also demonstrates attempt at two point perspective however the effect of this is reduced because of the fact the corner of the table has not been drawn and from this perspective, it would have probably have been visible.
The drapery has been represented fairly well as it is shows a light airy material which has been achieved through smudging techniques which reduces intense and harsh lines and creates soft undefined curves. However the main problem with this image is that it contains is that there is no 'finesse' and no individuality which consequently makes it looks very unoriginal and boring.
